Whisper Sanctuary is a Registered Charity (1218456) founded in 2026 with three main aims:
Safe Forever Home
Horse Welfare Advocacy
Wellbeing with Horses
>A Sanctuary of Peace
Whisper Sanctuary provides a safe, peaceful home for neglected, abused and unwanted horses and ponies in the South West of England. A place where they can live as close to their natural environment as possible – living as a herd and where their interaction with humans is one based on respect and trust.
There is a growing welfare crisis where existing rescue charities are operating at or near full capacity, leaving thousands of equines at ongoing risk of neglect, abandonment or harm. Whisper Sanctuary has been established to help this crisis.
Operations are planned in two phases: an initial Stage 1 where the sanctuary operates using land kindly provided by local landowners in the Abbots Leigh area. During this time fundraising activities are ongoing to establish Stage 2, a permanent, dedicated base for Whisper Sanctuary where all the rescue horses live together and our planned activities can be established to secure long-term sustainability and impact in-line with our mission.
The charity also provides a platform to promote a different way of being with and seeing horses, not just viewing them as animals for work and leisure and equating their value based on what they can do for us and what they have acheived. Instead seeing them as sensative, sentiant being, deserving of respect and dignity.
Building awareness of the deep relationship that can be formed by offering freedom and choice and learning to listen to the horse rather than trying to control it. Exploring non ridden activities that can be enjoyed by horse and human and promoting all aspects of horse welfare as well as life time ownership and care.

Whisper Sanctuary is also a place of healing and growth for people and offers opportunities for volunteers and interested parties to improve their wellbeing by connecting with these beautiful rescued animals.
The activities will include volunteer opportunities, mindfulness walks, grooming and meditation with the herd, horse welfare courses offered by experts in the field, corporate social responsibility days, visits for children undergoing hospital treatment, to name a few.
These activities will be expanded considerably once Stage 2 is established with a dedicated charity base for the horses and a barn structure to host visitors.
Activities and Events will be promoted on this website – coming soon!
